Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme

The Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) was introduced in March 2024 by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) in India. It seeks to increase the use of two and three wheeled electric cars for business use and to provide India the resources it needs to develop and produce EVs.

The four month period from 1 April 2024 to 31 July 2024, will see the implementation of the EMPS-2024. It offers EVs subsidies and has a 500 crore rupee budget. For every two-wheeler EV, up to Rs. 10,000 will be given for every small three-wheeler EV, up to Rs. 25,000 and for every big three-wheeler EV, up to Rs. 50,000. As the subsidy amount will be subtracted from the final invoice price, lowering the purchase price of the EVs, customers will also benefit from the MHI’s repayment of the subsidies or demand incentives to the EV producers upon the sale of their vehicle.
