About West Bengal Samudra Sathi Scheme
Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources and Fishing Harbour, under the leadership of the Government of West Bengal has launched West Bengal Samudra Sathi Scheme for the fisherman of their state. Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has announced this social welfare scheme for fishermen of their state. There is a period from mid-April to mid-June when fishing in the sea is officially prohibited due to various natural disasters. It becomes difficult for fishermen to meet their basic needs, who depends on fishing. Keeping an eye on it, poor fisherman will be provided the financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 per month for 2 months during the off season for fisherman. Total of Rs. 10,000 will be provided by the state government for 2 months under this scheme. A budget of Rs. 200 Crore has been allocated for this project. Around 2 lakh fishermen will get financial assistance through this project.

Eligibility Criteria
To avail the benefit under this scheme, you should fulfill these eligibility criteria:
- The applicants should be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
- Applicant must be a registered fisherman.
- Age o the fisherman should be above 21 years old.
- Fisherman from these three districts, East Medinipur, North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas are eligible for the scheme.
