One Scientist One Product Scheme – Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken the initiative to inaugurate One Scientist, One Product Scheme. This scheme promises to transform the outlook of agricultural and animal husbandry research across India. The aim of the scheme is to enhance agricultural productivity by assigning specific targets to individual scientists within the organization for the next 5 years. Each scientist will be given a specific target to develop a product.

All the 5,521 scientists of ICAR have been registered under this scheme. At the beginning of each year, scientists should identify and inform about the product they are going to develop. The scheme has a long-term plan to develop 100 new seed varieties and 100 farm technologies within 100 days as part of the government’s plan. About One Scientist, One Product Scheme

The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) has just launched One Scientist, One Product Scheme on July 16. The scheme aims to focus and simplify research efforts in agriculture and animal husbandry. Each of the 5,521 scientists at ICAR will be assigned to develop a product, technology, model, concept or publication. Progression will be monitored in every three months at institute level and at headquarters level in every six months with five year plan. ICAR will formally announce the release of 323 varieties of 56 crops including cereals, oilseeds, forage, crops and sugarcane. Along with this, there are 289 climate-resilient varieties and 27 bio-fortified varieties.

The launch of this scheme coincides with 96th foundation day of ICAR which adds the significance of the occasion. According to the reports, 16 million hectares are under bio-fortified varieties of crops, including wheat, rice, pearl millet, lentil and mustard during 2023-24. From 2014-15 to 2023-24, ICAR has released 2,593 high-yielding varieties which includes 2,177 climate-resilient and 150 bio-fortified crop varieties.
