About Fame India Scheme
Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India has taken the initiative to launch the Fame India Scheme in 2015 to reduce the pollution which is caused by diesel and petrol vehicles and to promote electric or hybrid vehicles in India. FAME stands for Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India. This scheme aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in India. This scheme is an incentive scheme that encourages the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles. Manufacturers and infrastructure providers of electric vehicles will receive this incentive in the form of subsidies. This scheme operates in two phases which are Phase I and Phase II. The first phase was started in 2015 and was functional till 31st March 2019 and the second phase of this scheme started in April 2019 and will continue till 31st March 2022, however the Government has decided to further extend Scheme Phase II till 31st March 2024.

Features Of Phase I
- The concerned authorities has executed the Phase I by focusing on four main areas which are (i) Demand Creation, (ii) Technology Platform, (iii) Pilot Project and (iv) Charging Infrastructure.
- The Government has allotted Rs. 895 Crore to cover the operations of Phase I. Nearly 2.8 lakh electric vehicles were supported with an amount of Rs. 359 Crore.
- The Government installed 427 charging stations during Phase I.
Features Of Phase II
- It focuses on electrification of public transportation and shared transportation.
- This phase has budget of Rs. 10,000 Crore.
- The concerned department aims to provide incentives to various categories of vehicles which are:
- Electric Two wheelers: Incentive of Rs. 20,000 each will be provided to 10 lakh registered electric two-wheelers.
- Electric Four wheelers: Incentive of Rs. 1.5 Lakh each will be provided to 35,000 electric four-wheelers with ex-factory price of Rs. 15 Lakh.
- Hybrid Four wheelers: The Government will provide Rs. 13,000 – Rs. 20,000 as an incentive to hybrid 4-wheelers with ex-factory price of Rs. 15 lakh.
- E-rickshaws: Incentive of Rs. 50,000 will be provided to 5 Lakh e-rickshaws each.
- E-buses: Incentive of Rs. 50 Lakh each will be provided to 8,000 e-buses with the maximum ex-factory price of Rs. 2 Crores.
- The Government is expecting of establishing 2700 charging stations in metros, smart cities, hilly states, million-plus cities across the country.
- The Government aims to cover highways and establish charging stations on both sides of the road with a gap of 25 km between two consecutive stations under this scheme of phase II.
