The Maharashtra government intends to prepare 3,740 athletes in 12 different sports for the Olympics under the Maharashtra Lakshyavedh Scheme. Rajesh Deshmukh, the newly appointed Sports Commissioner, claims that Maharashtra has allocated Rs 160 crore for this project. The tennis training facility will be located at Balewadi Stadium in Pune.

In the first phase, Mission Lakshyavedh would encompass 12 sports. activities including lawn tennis, table tennis, rowing, shooting, hockey, badminton, boxing, weightlifting and sailing. Deshmukh said at a press conference that this scheme will also see the district level construction of 37 sports excellence centers.
